Nature’s Apothecary: Why I Choose Natural Over Chemical

Nature’s Apothecary: Why I Choose Natural Over Chemical

Welcome to Nature’s Apothecary, where I dive into the power of natural ingredients and why I trust them over chemical-laden alternatives. In this space, I’ll be sharing everything I’ve learned about natural skincare, household products, pet care, diet, and even the ways we impact the environment. My switch to a more natural lifestyle wasn’t just a trend—it was a necessity, fueled by personal experience, chronic illness, and a deep distrust of the industries profiting from sickness.

I don’t trust big pharma or the corporations that control it. I’ve seen firsthand how these industries prioritize profits over people, pushing synthetic products that come with long lists of side effects while dismissing natural solutions that have been used for centuries. This isn’t just about medicine—it’s about everything we put on and in our bodies. From skincare to food to household cleaners, modern products are packed with chemicals that disrupt our health in ways we don’t fully understand. That’s why I started questioning everything. And the more I researched, the more I realized that the best solutions have always come straight from the earth.

Natural vs. Chemical: What’s the Difference?

At its core, the biggest difference between natural and chemical-based products is how they interact with our bodies. Natural ingredients work with our skin and systems, supporting and nourishing them instead of disrupting them. Chemical ingredients, on the other hand, are often synthetic imitations designed for mass production and longer shelf life—not for true healing or nourishment.

Take skincare, for example. The skin is the largest organ in the body and absorbs everything we put on it. Most commercial skincare products contain artificial fragrances, preservatives, and petroleum-based ingredients that do nothing but coat the skin and clog pores. Many even contain endocrine disruptors, which mess with hormones and can have long-term health effects.

Natural ingredients, on the other hand, provide real nutrients. They are biocompatible—meaning our skin recognizes and uses them effectively. The body knows what to do with beeswax, jojoba oil, tallow, and shea butter because these ingredients are simple, recognizable, and full of benefits.

Breaking Down My Go-To Natural Ingredients

Everything in my Lavender Labrador products has a purpose. No fillers, no fluff—just ingredients that work. Here’s why I use them:

Beef Tallow

Full of vitamins A, D, E, and K, which nourish and repair the skin.

Mimics the natural oils of human skin, making it ultra-moisturizing.

Contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), which has anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties.

Creates a protective barrier without clogging pores.

Shea Butter

Rich in fatty acids and antioxidants that heal dry, damaged skin.

Helps with eczema, psoriasis, and scarring by deeply hydrating.

Naturally contains SPF, offering light sun protection.

Anti-inflammatory and soothing for sensitive skin.

Jojoba Oil

The closest oil to our skin’s natural sebum, making it perfect for balancing oil production.

Non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog pores.

Naturally antibacterial, helping with acne and irritation.

Loaded with vitamin E, which protects and repairs the skin barrier.

Beeswax

Locks in moisture while allowing skin to breathe.

Has antibacterial properties, making it great for wound healing.

Forms a natural protective layer without feeling greasy.

Coconut Oil

Antifungal and antibacterial, perfect for soothing skin irritations.

High in lauric acid, which supports the skin’s natural healing process.

Works as a natural preservative in skincare, extending product shelf life.

Each of these ingredients has been used for centuries, long before we had mass-produced lotions full of synthetic chemicals. They don’t just sit on top of the skin—they actually nourish, heal, and support its natural functions.

It’s Not Just About Skincare—It’s a Lifestyle

Switching to natural products doesn’t stop at skincare. I’ve made natural swaps in every area of my life—household cleaners, pet care, diet, and even the way I interact with the environment. Why? Because once I started researching, I realized just how toxic most conventional products really are.

Household Cleaners: The average cleaning spray contains hormone disruptors and carcinogens. I now use simple, effective ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and essential oils.

Pet Care: Our pets are just as affected by chemicals as we are. I make my own paw balm, shampoos, and flea treatments to keep them safe.

Diet & Medicine: I avoid processed foods whenever possible and use herbs, minerals, and natural remedies to support my body. While modern medicine has its place, I believe in preventative care and using natural options when possible.

Do Your Own Research—Always

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from my chronic illness is that you can’t blindly trust the system. Doctors don’t always have all the answers, and the companies selling us products care about profits first. That’s why I believe in doing my own research, asking questions, and making informed choices.

That being said, I’m not a medical professional. Everything I share here is based on my own experiences, research, and personal preferences. What works for me may not work for everyone, and I always encourage you to do your own research, ask questions, and talk with trusted medical professionals.

Taking Back Control

At the end of the day, choosing natural is about taking back control over what we put in and on our bodies. It’s about recognizing that nature already provides everything we need—without unnecessary additives, without toxins, and without the influence of profit-driven corporations.

This blog is here to share what I’ve learned and to help others navigate the world of natural living. Whether you’re just starting out or you’ve been on this path for years, I hope Nature’s Apothecarybecomes a place where we can share knowledge, challenge the norm, and take back our health—together.
