Rest & Reset Hub: The Power of Rest for a Healthier Life

Why Rest Matters

In a world that glorifies hustle culture, rest is often overlooked—but for those of us with chronic illnesses, it’s not optional. Our bodies require extra time to recover, recharge, and function properly. Studies even suggest that women may need closer to 10 hours of sleep rather than the commonly recommended 8. Lack of rest can worsen symptoms, weaken the immune system, and increase stress, making proper relaxation a crucial part of managing chronic conditions.

How I Unwind

Rest isn’t just about sleep—it’s about reducing stress and giving both the body and mind time to heal. Here are some of my favorite ways to relax:

  • Nature Walks – Whether it’s through the park or the art museum grounds, fresh air and movement ease stress and improve overall well-being.
  • Creative Outlets – Oil painting and crocheting help me enter a state of flow, which is shown to reduce anxiety and boost mood.
  • Cozy Movie Nights – Nothing beats cuddling with my dogs and watching comforting films like Spirited Away or Fantastic Mr. Fox.
  • Forest Time – Spending time in the woods grounds me, improves focus, and lowers stress hormones.
  • A Little Green Therapy – Smoking or taking an edible can help me unwind, ease pain, and enhance relaxation.
  • Long Showers – Warm water soothes sore muscles and signals the body it’s time to relax.
  • Reading – Escaping into a book provides mental rest and gives my mind a break from daily stressors.
